In response to a question about why the U.S. didn't give Japan or other allies notice about its decision to strike Iran, President Trump joked about Japan not giving notice before the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. The comment came during a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi.
“Who knows better about surprise than Japan, okay? Why didn’t you tell me about Pearl Harbor?”
The attack on the U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii killed or wounded more than 3,500 American troops and civilians according to the Department of Defense.
