The reconstructed Indo-European midwinter initiation rite for adolescent boys included the consumption of dogs, breaking something forbidden in normal society. This was an inversion of normal rules. It also caused the boys to absorb the dog's attributes, making them stealthy, cunning, fast, and predatory. We know this only from mythology and linguistics but from archeology.
